Extra information:
Blue & white floral transferware is a widely recognised
ceramic style produced using cobalt-based pigments to
create detailed designs beneath a clear glaze. Developed
in Britain in the late 18th century, the transfer printing process allowed intricate floral patterns-often inspired by earlier Chinese porcelain-to be reproduced efficiently on earthenware. Centres such as the Staffordshire Potteries became leading producers,
supplying both domestic & export markets. The varying
depths of blue seen on these wares result from differences in ink application, plate wear, & firing conditions, producing tones that range from pale, almost washed-out hues to deep, rich blues. This tonal variation adds visual richness & can help identify
specific production techniques or periods. Blue & white
transferware remained popular due to its balance of affordability, durability, and decorative appeal.
