Additional Information:
This fragment originates from blue and white domestic tableware, a popular style exported across Britain and the colonies during the late 18th to mid-19th centuries. The design, painted in cobalt oxide beneath a clear glaze, reflects the influence of Chinese porcelain patterns that inspired English potteries such as Spode, Davenport, and Wedgwood. One plece is easily identifiable as the Nankin Border from the beloved Willow Pattern. The other is harder to identify but is painted in the very popular Blue on White background. Its glaze crazing and rounded edges show the effects of long-term water and sediment wear in the Thames Estuary, Essex
