1836 Love Token Pendant
£48.00
This silver four pence or 'groat' is dated 1836 and was introduced by William IV to make every day transactions easier, especially the common 'four pence cab fee' It was only in circulation for a few years as in 1845 it was replaced by the three pence.
This 1836 coin has been gently transformed into a love token - the small drilled hole a quiet sign that someone, long ago, wanted to keep it close to their heart.
In the 19th century, people often turned coins into keepsakes for sweethearts, friends or family, carrying them as symbols of affection, protection or remembrance.
Worn smooth by time and touched by many hands, this little groat now holds not just history, but sentiment too.
